Federal Regulation

Institutional and Programmatic Information (complaint information)

Description

Institutions must provide enrolled or prospective students, upon request, with documentation of the institution’s accreditation and state, federal, or tribal approval or licensing.  Additionally, the institution must provide contact information for filing complaints with its accreditor, and with the state’s approval or licensing entity, and any other appropriate agencies that would handle student complaints.  This rule is applicable regardless of modality.

The rule was released with other regulations referred to as Program Integrity rules in 2010.  Although enforcement of the state authorization regulation was delayed, this regulation to provide state agency information was not.

Action to be taken

  • Identify all accrediting agencies and state oversight agencies with authority over the institution.
  • Gather and verify current contact information for each agency.
  • Provide this complaint contact information to prospective and enrolled students upon request.

Effective Date

  • July 1, 2011
