EO 14219 Ensuring Lawful Governance and Implementing the President Department of Government Efficiency Deregulatory Initiative

Description

Executive Order 14219 directs federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Education, to reduce regulations and streamline operations as part of the broader government efficiency initiative. For higher education, this could mean fewer or revised federal regulations, but also potential uncertainty as existing regulations are reviewed or rolled back.

Action to take

  • Monitor Updates – Track announcements from the U.S. Department of Education about regulatory reviews or deregulatory actions.
  • Review Compliance Policies – Be prepared to adjust institutional policies if federal requirements are revised or eliminated.
  • Engage in Comment Opportunities – Participate in public comment periods to provide input on proposed regulatory changes.
  • Coordinate Across Offices – Ensure financial aid, compliance, and academic leadership are aligned on any changes that affect institutional operations.
  • Stay Connected to Associations – Use resources from higher education associations (like WCET and SAN) for timely analysis and guidance.
